flowers and vintage mix

please excuse my tardiness and my over-exposed picture.

when jane and nita throw a party you know i try my best to be on time.

so pardon me for being late.

are you allowed to attend two parties at the same time?  i hope so because that is what i'm doing.

i've got gorgeous green hydrangeas freshly dried from my garden and they are on a very old solid maple dresser that i bought about 20 years ago for $8.  my boys have always used it and it's been every color in the rainbow and had more stickers on it than i could count.  it's kind of sentimental to me when i think back to all the times i yelled at them to pick their clothes up off the floor and put them away.  which they rarely did btw.

that's an alabaster bird feeder that holds my vintage turquoise and the lamp looks old but it is new from urban outfitters.  the vintage clock and the newish little picture frame holding a picture of stella completes the arrangement.

you may recognize this fabric and think i'm overdoing it and normally i'd probably agree with you except in this case because in this case...i LOVE this fabric.

now that i've said it out loud and have it throughout my house i'll probably be sick of it by next week.  i sure hope not.

so i think (and you can correct me nita if i'm wrong) that by mixing the vintage pieces with the fresh flowers and the new pottery barn headboard that this is a mod vintage mix!

did i ever tell you that i got my pottery barn sofa and this headboard from our american express rewards points?  i did and it only took 20 years.

&

have a great big beautiful week you guys.

  15. Am sure you are allowed to attend two parties at once - we can do anything we like in blogland. I LOVE your chest of drawers and the fact that it holds so many memories too. Green hydrangea heads are one of my favourites and I am sure you will never tire of that great fabric. To answer your question, yes, I am very pleased to be here back in England in my darling little cottage. Lots to be done though. May do a post about it all - such a hard situation being in two places (Australia and UK) and not knowing really what will happen in the long term. Have a great week Janet. XXX

  22. Janet-so many things I love here that I want to comment on ...first, I actually love the over exposed photo, it looks artsy and makes your new pillow really pop. I love your collage wall and have mentioned that a few times, but this perspective allows us to see the drawing of what looks like a robot? Is this the work of one of your sons, I'm wondering. I can imagine how sentimental your dresser is the way you've described it. The little vignette you've created on top is just beautiful as is the view out your window. Your hydrangea is gorgeous and I did think that lamp was something you found at a flea market or thrift store....and of course the adorable photo of Stella. It's all so pretty and inspiring!! xo annie

My kids never picked their clothes up off the floor either.

Also,I was wondering. If you get a chance can you tell me what you eat for snacks throughout day for a pick me up - the vegan way? Love to get ideas.

Also, the Ralph Lauren Book? I want to get one but there are many to choose from. Do you know exact title?

THANKS so much. I love it when you post.I look at my GOOGLE reader and see if you've posted first thing!

    THanks! Jennifer

  30. Love the hydrangeas and your collection of beautiful things on your dresser. Your bedroom looks so relaxing...

I too have an old dresser. It was mine growing up and I painted it white for my daughter's bedroom. After she moved out I painted it a blue-gray color.

Gotta love those reward points...I get mine from Discover and have earned many gift cards over the years. My last one was from Pottery Barn as well, but it was not enough $ to buy a sofa or headboard! :)

  32. jennifer, thanks and it is the ralph lauren 25 anniv book. it's huge, costs a fortune and i'd never own it if my son hadn't bought it for me. but i love it. vegan snacks? i did a post awhile back on some of my favorites. but off-hand, peanut butter and jam sandwiches, olives, fruit, veggies dipped in trader joes goddess dressing. i'm crazy for nuts in the shell these days.

  33. Thanks so much Janet. I'll check the book out. Also, thanks for snacks ideas. I'll have to go through and see if I can see your post on your blog about snacks. I've been obsessed over your blog and looked through all posts but must have missed it. Just love your simple, fresh, way of life. Something I'm striving for. Thanks again.
